Mediatek has unveiled Helio G85, a successor to Helio G80. This is Mediatek’s midrange chipset which has main focus on gaming. Yes “G” is for Gaming. It is built on (12nm) process. The Helio G85 is featuring Octa-core processors, two are Cortex A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and six Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.
It is packing Mali-G52 GPU which is clocked at 1.0GHz whereas the G80’s GPU can max run at 950MHz, Not a big difference. It has now integrated Voice Wakeup capability which is more efficient on voice assistance tasks.
It can support up to two 16MP sensors or a single 48MP sensor, which is quite impressive for midrange focused smartphones. It also features Intelligent prediction of WiFi and LTE concurrency which initiates in just 13ms for lag free gaming experience. It also supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4X ram.
The main competitor of G85 is Snapdragon 6xx series from Qualcomm. Helio G85 can score almost 206,000 on antutu benchmark, which is quite impressive for smartphones under $250. The more competition in chipsets results more beneficent for end consumers.
