Mediatek unveiled it new 800 series chipset, Dimensity 820, it comes with higher clock speeds and an additional GPU core as compared to Dimensity 800. It is also based on 7nm process like Dimensity 800, but its cluster of Cortex-A76 (quad core) is clocked at 2.6Ghz whereas Dimensity 800’s was capped at 2.0Ghz. The Cortex-A55 (quad core) are clocked at 2.0Ghz. It can support LPDDR4x ram up to 16GB. The storage tech that is used is UFS.
The 5G modem has also been upgraded and now supports two 5G SIM cards.
On the GPU side, it has the same Mali-G57 with five cores instead of 4 cores of Dimensity 800. It can handle 120Hz display with Full HD+ resolution.
Let’s talk about some benchmarks comparison with Snapdragon 765G, which is the old chipset now. On the Geekbench 4.2, Dimensity 820 has performed 7% better on single-core scores and is 37% better performer on multi-core scores. Dimensity 820 has scored 33% higher in GFX Manhattan 3.0. According to Mediatek Dimensity 820 destroyed SD 765G in AI benchmarks, Mediatek’s chipset is 300% better performer when it comes to AI.
